Hello Team,
Big thanks to everybody who reached out to us at the game yesterday.
A common theme is starting to appear. Cheer Squad members are unhappy with the way tickets and seats are allocated. We heard several stories of members suddenly losing access to their seats or having their regular seats re-assigned, without any apparent reason. The allocation of tickets for “helpers” seems pretty loose with the definition of who is a “helper” varying from week to week. Many of these cases resulted in the members leaving the Cheer Squad for good.
Another concern relates to how finals tickets have been allocated and the “ballot” for allocating those tickets. The integrity of the ballot has been called into question with allegations that the ballot is rigged and preferential treatment has been given to some.
Some members have also expressed concern that if they are seen be be supporting our group that their seats and tickets may be at risk. If you find yourself in this situation, please let us know and we will take it up with the committee on your behalf. There’s a lot of us now and we can exert some influence if needed.
So, how would we resolve the ticket/seating issue:
- Have a clear system for handling it.
- Write that system down so everyone can see it and understand it. It could be in the Constitution or in a set of By Laws.
- Have a trusted committee member assigned to the role of “Ticketing Coordinator”.
- The finals ticket ballot would be done publicly and streamed.
- Require all committee members to stand for re-election every year. That way the committee will be accountable to the Cheer Squad members on this and every other issue.
If you have any stories related to your experience with ticketing/seats, feel free to share in our “Your Say” page.
Go Tiges!!
PS. It was an ugly win but 4 points is 4 points!
