Today we are going to discuss one of the changes we want to make to the ORCS Constitution.

Our proposed amendment to the ORCS Constitution will require that all committee seats are declared vacant each year and all nine positions to be re-elected at the Annual General Meeting.

What happens now?

Currently, each committee member serves a term of 3 years. This is on a rotating basis so that each year 3 seats are declared vacant. Committee members whose seats have been declared vacant may nominate for re-election to the committee.

Why change?

Accountability. If the ORCS membership are dissatisfied with the performance or actions of a committee member it can be up to three years before they can be voted off the committee by the membership. Requiring committee members to stand for re-election every year gives them an incentive to perform well and makes them accountable for the decisions they make ensuring that the committee members are acting professionally, responsibly and fairly in the best interest of the membership.
